We must have faith in county

Everyone is looking for the economy to reach bottom and head back into blue sky territory. We’re sorry to say, it isn’t going to happen soon.

Today’s news reports that consumers are reducing their borrowing, and the government named several firms to manage those “toxic assets.”

At the same time, locally, reporter Larry Dale is chronicling the business history of Rutherford County’s last 100 years. It is a story of boom and bust.

It’s too bad that we are now in the bust period. But Dale’s series shows that individual commitment and creativity have a way of providing opportunities.

The problem is the current generation has been conditioned to expect rapid corrections and improvements.

Our job, now, is to look for those opportunities and build on our assets.

We must never forget that Rutherford County has many assets, and if we stay the course, its economy and its residents will once again grow and thrive.

We must have faith.
