Veterans Memorial Rehabilitation
You may recall, the plaque in a brick structure at the clock tower site—displaying name plates of 366 veterans of World War II—was difficult to read. The plaque had been behind dual panes of class, which have hindered the names’ readibility and created extreme heat, caused fading, filming and deterioration.
We’ve tried to remedy this with a single pane of tempered low-glare glass. (The original panes were plate glass, which splinters into dangerous shards when broken. Stronger tempered glass crumbles into small granular chunks.)
Society President Phillip White and Director James L. Harris ramrodded the [2012] project. They contracted with Forest City Glass to propose and then install the needed improvements. Below is photographic documentation.
We did not attempt to raise funds specifically to do this, but used our general fund, which consists of your membership fees and other non-specific donations. We hope you’ll help us replace the $665 project cost. Just send whatever you can afford to the Cliffside Historical Society, 10612 Round Road, Charlotte, NC 28277.
