Ann & Brenda: Marriage

Brenda: My husband, Richard, is upset at not being able to be here. He didn’t get to know him [Mr. Beatty] too much. We got married in ‘72 and Dad died in ‘75, but he really admired him and appreciated everything he did for us.

But one thing, when I told Dad I was getting married—we didn’t have a very long courtship, so I needed to get home fast, because Richard kept saying I want to go talk to your dad, talk to your dad. And I said, not before I go home and kinda smooth the way. Which I did, and I was telling him about this guy I think I’m going to marry. And he said, “Well, that’s good. I will be glad to turn over the taking care of your car to somebody else.”

Ann: When Spencer and I were dating and then when it became serious (we dated over a year and a half), he would tend to be late a lot, and when he came for a date Dad would say, “Humph, I would not date somebody that couldn’t be on time.”

We’ll let Spencer explain that, and any other thing he wants to tell about Dad.

Recorded at the Society’s 3rd annual Gathering, October 9, 2009.
