1950’s Street Scene

Summer in Cliffside meant sunsuits, bare feet, backyard gardens and … ducks? Well, not so much. Here, David and Martha Vada White and their big brother, Harold Clardy, pose with probably the only duck in town.

They’re near the north end of Church Street. Above them are the backs of house on North Main. Those were the days of (mostly) unpaved streets and driveways, car sheds and a clothes line for every home. Remember the smell of those sun-dried sheets as you lay there all asweat, praying for a cooling night breeze to come through the open window.
