Cliffside Mills Store

Picture contributor: Anthony Scruggs

The store building and out front stand the entire staff, each standing before the section of the store he or she worked. There are 22 in all.
Cliffside Mills Store

This photo was made sometime after the building’s expansion, probably around 1914 or so.

The left half of the building held a drug store, and, to its right, what appears to be a Ford agency. The right half of the building was the Cliffside Mills Store. Only the store has a concrete sidewalk. The drug store and the Ford agency has dirt right up to their doors. (Wipe your feet.)

Anthony Scruggs found this photo postcard on eBay (and paid quite a sum for it). Our thanks for sharing. Below is the back of the card, and blowups of the signs mounted along the front of the building.

The handwritten message on the back on the card begins with "This card shows our main store building and the clerks who work in this building." It goes on to list all 22 of them.
