Window Hangers

Picture contributor: Phillip White

A parked Rutherford County school bus. Four high school seniors, each one with his arms and upper torso sticking through a window.
Window Hangers

The 1957 Cliffside High varsity four-man school bus-window hanging team won the county championship that year, beating Tri-High 13 to 5 in the finals. Shown here in a moment of triumph just before the big victory parade through downtown Cliffside are Dan Marsh, Alfred Gardner, Troy Houser and Charles Ramsey.

After graduation, Alfred won an athletic scholarship to UNC and played on their eight-man hanging team. Troy opened a flash bulb store in the Buck Shoals area. Dan ran a small kangaroo ranch in Fairview and Charles became a radio hypnotist.
