Simple Pleasures

Picture contributor: Bonnie Mintz Hines

Two mothers in dresses sitting with their children in a shallow creek.
Simple Pleasures

The creek ran behind the houses on Valley Street, where Bonnie Mintz’s family lived, as did R. G. Watkins, his wife Muriel, and their children Diane and Pete. From left is Diane Watkins, Mrs. Ott (R. G.’s mother-in-law from New York), Bonnie Mintz (in cap), Pete Watkins and Ruby Mintz, Bonnie’s mother. Bonnie remembers they always sat in the creek with their dresses on. If you look carefully in the upper right, you’ll see a #3 wash tub hanging on the side of what appears to be an outhouse. Such tubs were used for doing laundry and taking baths.
