The Windstorm

When we created this page, we mistakenly identified the pile of metal panels as part of a crashed jet plane. And we misidentified the location as near Cliffside Cemetery.

As we learned later, the debris is actually the top of the water tower that blew off during a violent windstorm. And the site in the photo is at the top of Reservoir Street, a short distance behind the tower. The large white building in the background is the old cotton gin.

David L. Taylor got us on the right track when he wrote, “That is the picture of the top of the water tank that blew off. I know because I was there. I saw it blow off.”
