Dragging the road down Cliffside way

Clipping from the Forest City Courier in 1979. Section titled 'A Rutherford County snapshot album . . . to commemorate our 200th birthday. Photo show 10 or so mules hitched to drag pans and other implements. Men are holding each team. Caption is 'Dragging the road down Cliffside way . . .'. Text under caption reads: C.D Wall of Caroleen brought in this picture of his daddy's mule team dragging the road just beyond the Buck Shoals Bridge below Cliffside in 1916. That's J. S. Wall at center-left in a tie. On the mule is E.H Wall, and over on the right is 'ol' man' George Rollins and Ed Yontz. Mr Wall, who was 86 this spring said 'that's a pile a-mules' pulling dragpens. He also remembered that 'ol' man John Champion' took the picture - that's his shadow in the foreground you can see.

Clipping courtesy Johnny Phillips.
