An Amazing Coincidence

One recent afternoon we were working on a new World War II article for this website. We had just scanned a list of Cliffside’s 366 World War II veterans. In the process, I had messed up the first name on the list, and was retyping it…“ADAIR, COLEN C.” At the very instant I finished typing the name, Outlook Express made its dinging sound, signaling that an email had arrived. I reached down to the taskbar, clicked on the Inbox icon, and read this message:

Thank you for the beautiful Cliffside website and all of the pictures on it. My father, Colen Adair, was born in Cliffside in 1918 and lived in Cleveland County until he joined the service at the beginning of World War II. His name is on the WWII monument in Cliffside, and he was there for the dedication ceremony. My dad passed away this past July, but he throughly enjoyed the Remember Cliffside website and was able to show me one of his 'old' girlfriends in one of the pictures. Uncle Clang and Wormie Hawkins in others. Looking at the picture of the month that opened today, I am thinking how much my dad would have loved that picture. I know he could have told me who used to live in many of those houses too.!! I really appreciate your work on the website. Mary Adair Baker.

Ooooooh-eeeee-ooooooooh. I just about dropped my few remaining teeth. What cosmic force was at work here?
