Clemson Class Project 1935

Woven image of president, and the words 'Franklin D. Roosevelt. President of the United States. Textile Department. Clemson College, S.C.'
A woven image of FDR
Paul, standing beside his Ford sedan
Paul Bridges – 1936

Each year in those days, the graduating seniors of Clemson’s textile department were assigned to design and produce a unique cloth pattern. Paul Bridges of Cliffside designed this intricate, finely-woven portrait of FDR. Several copies of this 8″ x 13″ artifact still exist. This one belongs to Mary Edna Hamrick McCraw.

Several Cliffside boys attended Clemson. In addition to Paul there were Grover Haynes, Jr., Boyce Bridges, Jr., Richard Brown, Glenn White, Solon Smart, Buck Hawkins, James Allen Hunnicutt, David L. McFalls, Jack McGinnis and Horace Bearden, among others.
