Cliffside, Oct. 5. — Hello friends. The football season is in full swing. The Boiling Springs Junior college will play Cliffside on Thursday, Oct.7, at the Cliffside ball park. Cliffside played at Newton Thursday, Sept, 30th. After a hard fought game the Purple Cloud lost to Newton. This team is expected to go far this year and the boys are doing their best to make good and one fine thing about these boys is their sportsmanship, which has been commented on by the school faculty.

This is circle week and the Junior organizations meet as follows: Bertha Smith, Thursday at 7 p. m., Mrs. Curtis Splawn. Alda Grayson, Monday at 7:15 p.m., Mrs. Newell Pearson. Pearl Johnson, met Thursday night with Mrs. Ledford. Attie Bostic, Thursday at 7:15 p.m., Mrs. B. Harris. Neal Young, Thursday at [??] p. m., P. R. Greene. Ruth Hurley, Friday at 7:15 p. m., Mrs. Otto Moore. Margie Allen, Friday at 7:30 p. m., Mrs. Jerome Harris. Emma Leachmon, Oct. 11, Monday 7 p.m., Mary Kelly, Friday at 7:15 p. m., Mrs. Toney. Y. W. A. Tueday at 7 p. m., Miss Geraldine McCurry. Intermediate G. A. met Thursday night with Maude Devinney. R. A. Monday at 3:30 p.m., Mrs. Hunnicutt. Sun-beams, Oct. 11 at 3:30 p. m., Mrs. Brown.

Mr. and Mrs. P. R. Greene were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mashburn, Sunday.

Mrs. B. L. Davidson and son Gerard, were visitors in Spartanburg, Sunday.

Mrs. R. B. Watkins, has returned home after spending several weeks with her sister in Huntsville, Ala.

Mrs. Juanita Blanton and Mr. Bill McNabb were married in York Saturday, Sept. 25. Their friends wish for them a happy married life.

The many friends of Mesdames R. L. Pruitt and Ed Carpenter are glad to know that they are improving.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Barkley spent the week-end in Statesville.

Messrs Herman Greene of Wofford and Davis Hunnicutt of Mars Hill and Miss Mildred Stimpson [Stimson] of Raleigh, spent the week-end at their homes here.

Mr. Monroe Norville of Spindale was a visitor here Sunday.

Rev. J. A. Hunnicutt left Monday to hold a revival at Loray Baptist church at Gastonia.

Mr. and Mrs. James Brown and Mr. and Mrs. James Crowe visited Mrs. Brown’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Fortune at Spindale, Sunday afternoon.

Miss Fannie McKinney of Forest City, spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Joe McKinney.

The first meeting of the Cliffside ‘Parent-Teachers’ Association was held Monday evening, Sept. 27 at 7:30 o’clock in the Memorial Building. The officers for the year and new teachers [were] received in the hall. The officers are President, Mrs. J. D. Brown; first vice-president, Mrs. Juanita Blanton McNabb; second vice-president, Mrs. James Tinkler; secretary, Miss Sue Whitesides; treas-urer, Mr. Gerard Davidson. The new teachers are Miss Mazie [Macie] Ezell, Miss Daisy Bolin, Miss Junietta [Juanita] Whisnant and Mr. Jonas Waters. We welcome these new teachers and are glad to have the other teachers back with us.

Regular and special committees were appointed. The P. T. A. will give a play “Eyes of Love” soon.

Reports were made. No special program was given. At the close of the business the meeting was turned over to the social committee. Mrs. H. L. Robertson, chairman for a social hour. Miss Sarah Barkley and Miss Ezell led in several games, after which Mrs. M. Hendrick, Mrs. H. L. Robertson, Mrs. D. C. Whitaker and Mrs. Gus Crawford served refreshments. All present enjoyed the evening. About 75 were present.
