The Twin Reporters

Twin Reporters, June 24, 1937

From The Courier, June 24, 1937

Cliffside, June. 21.—Hello, friends. Kinda lonesome tonight with just the Twin on the job, but we say carry on with a smile. The Twin has a reason for being absent though. Have you ever had a good case of sunburn? Well, several girls of this town have healthy sunburn. The G. A’s of Mrs. J. L. Atkinson’s group, with many others invited, went to the Asheville play ground Saturday and spent the day. Everyone had a nice time as there were many things in the park to amuse you. Some of the girls liked the water so well they stayed in a little too long. Now they see and feel the results of it. The old folks say “It’s never too late to learn.” And how!

The Cliffside cannery has opened and is operated by Messrs H. C. Beatty and Fred Barkley.

Mrs. Gaither Jenkins and children of Avondale are visiting Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Washburn [Mashburn] this week.

Friends of Mrs. J. R. Gibson will be glad to know of her improvement in health.

Rev. H. E. Stimson is holding a meeting in Morganton this week.

Friends of Mr. Leroy McCurry are glad to learn of his improvement in the Rutherford Hospital.

Rev. H. E. Stimson brought a very impressive and inspiring message Sunday morning to a large audience. There were two received into the church at the close of the service and the offering was $112.00.

Mr. Glenn Watkins, of Spindale visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Watkins recently.

Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Jolley, of Ellenboro, and Mr. and Mrs. Nollie Biggerstaff, of Spindale, visited Mr. and Mrs. Joe Biggerstaff, Sunday afternoon.

Mrs. Doris Godfrey, of Gaffney, is visiting Mr. and Mrs. Scott Ruppe this week.

Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Crawley and son Billy, of Alexander, visited Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Watkins, Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. B. B. Godfrey and family, Jaunita [Juanita] Lewis and Dorothy Ellen Ruppe, of Gaffney, visited Mr. and Mrs. Scott Ruppe, Sunday.

Miss Myrtle Green and Mr. Frank Mashburn were married at the Baptist parsonage Saturday morning, June 19th, at 8:30 by Rev. J. A. Hunnicutt. The beautiful ring ceremony was used. Miss Florence Blanton and Mr. Clemmer [Clyma] Ware were present for the marriage. The happy couple are [is] honeymooning in the mountains.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Barkley and son left Friday for a week’s stay in Norfolk, Va.

Miss Lalage Grigg has returned from a visit to her brother in Marion.

Messrs Ralph Crawford and Andy Love spent the week-end at Chestnut Hill.

Mrs. Fred Robertson [Robinson], Freddie and Mary Elizabeth and Mrs. J. A. Hunnicutt spent Friday at Rock Hill. Mrs. Robertson [Robinson] and her daughters sang at the Westside Baptist church.

Rev. J. A. Hunnicutt will return this week from Rock Hill, where he has been assisting Rev. C. T. Plybon in a revival. During his absence Mrs. Hunnicutt spoke for him here.
