The Twin Reporters

Twin Reporters, June 17, 1937

From The Courier, June 17, 1937

Cliffside, June 14.—Hello, friends. Hope you are listening in out there. Summer time is here and the call of the ole swimming hole is calling tonight, and who wouldn’t take a chance for a nice cold dip? Summer time brings many things that we enjoy. Cherries are nearly gone but the peaches are beginning to ripen. What do you think, boys and girls? Peaches are good when you can get into a peach tree on Sunday night and eat worms and all.

Mr. and Mrs. Willie Davis and Mrs. T. M. Davis and Mr. and Mrs. Dudley, of Salisbury, spent Sunday with Rev. and Mrs. J. A. Hunnicutt. James Allen Hunnicutt accompanied them to Salisbury for a month’s visit.

Mr. Paul Jackson of Spindale, was the Sunday night guest of Mr. Maurice Guffey and the Sunday dinner guest of Mr. Glenn McKinney.

Mr. Gerard Davidson left Friday to attend summer school at Mars Hill.

Mrs. J. J. Tarlton, of Rutherfordton, spoke at the W. M. U. meeting Tuesday night.

Rev. J. A. Hunnicutt left Monday to assist Rev. C. T. Plybon, of Rock Hill in a revival.

Mrs. Fannie Ricketts, has returned home after a two weeks’ visit with her son, Mr. Joe Ricketts, of Dysartsville.

Mrs. J. E. Silver, of Avondale, is visiting her daughter, Mrs. H. G. Womack.

Mr. Talbert has been promoted to superintendent of the Cliffside Mills and has now moved into the house recently occupied by Mr. E. T. Combs.

Misses Leola and Eula Belle Sizemore entertained their many friends with a party Saturday night.

Mr. and Mrs. Maynard Dorn and daughter, Jacqueline, and Miss Doris Willliams and Mrs. J. V. Divenney, of Lawndale visited Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Devenney, Sunday.

Mr. Paul Ricketts, of Great Falls was the week-end guest of Mr. and Mrs. T. M. Crowe.

Mr. Vance Devinney spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Greene, of Boiling Springs.

Rev. and Mrs. H. E. Stimpson [Stimson] were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Biggerstaff, Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Summie Scruggs, of Charlotte, visited friends here Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Beatty, Miss Flo Farris [Ferris ??], of Cliffside, and Miss Beatty, of Avondale, have returned from a two weeks’ vacation. They have visited in Canada and other Northern points, including Boston, Mass., where they spent a short time with Mr. Craig Watkins, formerly of Cliffside.
