Cliffside, May 10.—Hello, friends. Everything is running smoothly in and around our little town. Tho’ the third shift has been cut off, it seems that everybody has plenty to do. The theatre is nearing completion after being under construction for several weeks.

One who is a great help and aid to the Twin Reporters is none other than James Crowe of Cliffside.

Misses Hazel and Polly Stacy spent Sunday with their grandmother, Mrs. J. W. Rhymer at Floyd’s Creek.

Misses Ruth Ruppe and Hazel Melton, of Spindale, spent Sunday with Virginia and Elizabeth Winn.

Messrs James Hasher, Wayne Stacy, Ophus Jolley, Carol Gosey, motored to the mountains Sunday.

The Sunday afternoon guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Clayton were Mrs. Lawson McKinney and daughter Mary Sue of Mt. Vernon, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil McKinney and baby of Shelby.

Mrs. J. D. Brown attended the P.T.A. convention in Richmond, Va. last week.

Mrs. Carrie Metcalf of Statesville is spending a few days with Misses Lyndall and Mae Clayton.

Master Jimmie Roberson celebrated his eighth birthday Friday afternoon, with a lawn party at his home on Main street. Jimmie received lots of presents and after many games were played refreshments of dainty cakes and iced fruit juice was [were] served and then to the delight of all the little guests a beautiful white birthday

cake with eight tiny pink candles made its appearance. Miss Ethlyn [Etheleen] Roberson assisted her mother in entertaining the following: Carolyn Hames, Doris Edwards, Joyce Hardin, Jessie Roberson [Robinson], Peggy Harris, Peggy Lawrence Blanton, Wayne Haynes, “Bud” Crowe, Gene Whitaker, Charles Hubert Swing, [This may have been Charles Herbert Harris and Jimmy and Joe Swing], Ed Carpenter, Jr. Gene Shuford, Bobby Dellingham [Dillingham], Jack Biggerstaff, Jimmie Roberson and Austin Roberson, Jr.

Mr. Charles Haynes of Cliffside announce [announced] the engagement of his niece Miss Margaret Haynes to James Merit Spoon of Charlotte.

The Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. T. M. Crowe and family were Mr. and Mrs. Riley Baynard and children Lois, Margie, and Charles, Mr. and Mrs. W. Harris, Mr. J. J. Crowe and children Elizabeth, Evelyn, “Dot”, Glenn, and Joyce all of Forest City, Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Crowe and children, Nellie, Margaret, and Lucille of this place.

Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Hardin, of Swannanoa, visited relatives here Sunday.

Born, to Mr. and Mrs. Roy Crowe, May 9th, a son, George Franklin.

Mrs. Tonnie [Fannie] E. Richetts [Ricketts] spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. George Silver of near Avondale.

Rev. and Mrs. W. R. Grigg of Marion, Miss Catherine Logan of Rutherfordton, Miss Mildred Benson [Beason], Miss Helen Greene and Miss Lalage Grigg of Cliffside, left Monday, May 10th for a two weeks [week’s] vacation. They will be attending the Southern Baptist Convention in New Orleans, La. They are planning to return by way of Florida.

Mrs. Bessie Grigg is spending the week in Marion.

Mr. and Mrs. Abe Rhymer and children Louise, Sarah, and Joan of Cramerton spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Rhymer.
