The Twin Reporters

Twin Reporters, April 22, 1937

From The Courier, April 22, 1937

Cliffside, April 19. — Hello, friends. The Twins have been separated by the moving of one, out beyond the ball park. We certainly do hate this, for it is the first time we haven’t lived beside each other in years. We still manage to get together to write the news, though.

We appreciate the nice little letter that was written by Mrs. R. B. Watkins in last week’s Courier. And we agree with the Editor when he says this world would be a better place if they [there] were more like this lovable Christian woman.

We wonder what has become of our weather reporter, Miss Sadie Weast, of Alexander, the writer of Caroleen Chatter and Norman Fred Camp? [.] We miss these columns so much, for we think they are grand.

Personal mention for one of the most beautiful places in Shelby: The beautiful home and grounds next to the old Cleveland Hotel on the highway to Kings Mountain.

Personal mention for one of the prettiest town [towns]: Rock Hill, S. C.

Miss Nora Robbins was the week-end guest of Misses Nell and Mildred Blanton, of Shelby.

Miss Ellen Kendrick entertained her friends with a marshmallow toast Saturday night. Those enjoying the occasion were: Misses Eula Mae Gosey, Mildred Mode, Mary Frances Moss, and Ellen Kendrick; Messrs “Nob” Neale, Alton Edwards, “Dutch” [Duck] McDaniel and Gerard Davidson.

Dr. H. L. Robertson visited his mother, who has been sick for several days, at White Plains.

Misses Blanch Divinney and Lois Womack spent the week-end with Misses Fay an [and] Virginia Pritchard at Shelby.

Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Colvin visited their son, Mr. David Calvin [Colvin], at Davidson college over the week-end.

Mrs. G. C. Shuford is spending this week in Asheville.

Mr. Paul Ricketts of Great Falls, spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. T. M. Crowe. He was accompanied home on Sunday by Miss Sue and James Crowe, Margaret Allen, of Forest City, and Everett Dillashaw, of Alexander.

Mrs. H. E. Stimpson [Stimson] is spending the week-end at Concord.

Mr. and Mrs. J. P. [L.] Ledford announce the marriage of their daughter, Pearle, to Mr. Walter Gold, Feb. 28, at Gaffney. Mrs. Gold is the attractive daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Ledford, of Cliffside. Mr. Gold is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Gold, of Polkville. They have the best wishes of their many friends for a life of happiness.

Mr. and Mrs. Poe Murray and son Hugh spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Howard Greene at Spindale.

Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Parris and children spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Russell Northy at Spindale.

The Sophomore class of the Cliffside high school will present their annual play, “Oh Aunt Jerusha,” April 22, at 7:45 o’clock at the Cliffside high school building. The admission will be 10¢ and 15¢.The public is cordially invited to attend.

Rev. H. E. Stimpson [Stimson] brought a fine message Sunday morning to an attentive and appreciative audience.

At the close of the services Mrs. Irvin [Ervin ??] Guffey was received in the church by letter and her two daughters, Misses Mary and Ethel joined the church and were baptised [baptized].

Dr. G. O. Moss will speak at the P. T. A. meeting Monday night, April 26 at the school building. All parents are invited to attend this meeting.
