From The Courier, Feb. 27, 1936

Cliffside, Feb. 24—Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Crawley and children, of Spindale, were the week-end guests of Misses Charity and Callie Crawley.

Misses Emma Sue and Mary Crowe delightfully entertained a number of their friends on Friday night with a party. Those enjoying the occasion were: Misses Nellie Crane [Crowe], Lois Womack, Eula Mae Gosey, Mary McDaniel, Blanch Devinney, Ellen and Helen Kendrick, Lyndall Clayton, Elizabeth Bridges, Pearle Ledford, Janie Campbell, Bunia White, Ruth Jonas, Leola and Eula Belle Sizemore, of Cliffside and Lillian Philbeck of Ellenboro. Messrs Raymond Whitaker, Ernest Wilson, Ophus Jolley, Clarence McKinney, James Crowe, Clyma Ware, Frank Mashburn, Maurice Guffey, James Hooker, Glenn McKinney, Fred Crowe, “Duck” McDaniel and Jap Jonas of Cliffside, Ernest Coffey, Ernest Miller and G. B. Miller

of Forest City. Those winning the prize for the “Scavenger Hunt” were: Frank Mashburn and Mary Crowe, Clyma Ware and Lyndell [Lyndall] Clayton. Everyone present reported a fine time.

Mr. Mal McMurray, who has been visiting his parents the past two weeks, has returned to Norfolk, Va. where he is in the U. S. Navy.

 

Misses Ganelle and Margaret Burgess of Henrietta, were the week-end guests of Miss Virginia and Inez Biggerstaff.

Misses Edith Hooker delightfully entertained a large number of her friends with a surprise party on Saturday night for Marshall McMurray. A large number was present and everyone reported a fine time.

Mr. J. M. Whisnant is ill at this writing.

Misses Ellen and Helen Kendrick spent the week-end in Forest City with Miss Kathaleen Frye.

Mrs. Hoyle Kendricks [Kendrick] is ill at this writing.

The Cliffside Evangelistic Club held services at the prison camp yesterday and reported eight conversions.
