Improvements at Cliffside Mills


Improvements at cliffside mills. Entire interior of buildings newly painted, maple floors put in, recent personal items of interest. June 29. 1926

Cliffside, July 27—The inside of the Mill has taken on new life. A force of painters has just finished painting the entire mill. Mill White has been used for the walls and overhead and Grey for the trimmings. With the new maple floors which have just been laid, the entire Mill has the appearance of a new one.

The houses of South Main have been moved and excavating has started for the large reservoir to be used in connection with the Bleachery. Work on the the Bleachery is progressing nicely.

Dr. F. Bobo Scruggs is spending some time in Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach.

Mr. Andrew Harrill, of Rutherfordton, was here on business last week.

Mr. and Mrs. V.V. Fortune and daughter spent Sunday in Spartanburg.

Mr. and Mrs. Belle Freeman spent Sunday in Shelby.

Mr. and Mrs. Yates Miller have just returned from a week’s visit to their parents in Waco, N.C.

Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Hames, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Luther Campbell, enjoyed an outing at “Bearwallow,” near Bat Cave Sunday. Mr. Hames has recently purchased a lot from a development company and contemplate building there in the near future.

Mr. and Mrs. Plato Hawkins had as their guest last week, Mrs. McDaniel, of Henrietta.

Mr. G.C. Haynes spent Sunday in Saluda.

School Superintendent Back.

Mr. B.P. Caldwell, Supt. of the School here, has just returned from Chapel Hill, where he has completed a course at the University.

Little Grover Haynes, Jr., was taken to the Baby Hospital at Saluda last week and we are glad to note is much improved.

Mr. and Mrs. B.P. Caldwell and daughter, Beth, spent Sunday in Saluda and Asheville.

Mr. and Mrs. Geo. C. Shuford and family visited in Shelby Sunday afternoon.

Mesdames J.C. Hames, C.B. Martin, A.M. Haynes and Luther Campbell spent Thursday afternoon in Shelby.
