Real Heroes

Ruppe, Toy

September 13, 1944

Private First Class Toy Ruppe (1918-1944). U.S. Army, was killed in action in France on September 13, according to a message received by his mother, Mrs. Lula Ruppe of Cliffside. His brother Private Lynn Ruppe was killed in action in Italy on September 23, 1943, just short ten days of a year ago. This was the first instance of two war deaths in one family in Rutherford County during World War II.

Surviving were his mother; two sisters: Eloise Ruppe and Mrs. Alva Green of Cliffside; three brothers: Charles and Roy Ruppe of Cliffside; and Private Donnie E. Ruppe, U.S. Army in France. (Forest Citv Courier, December 28, 1944)
