A good view of the ramp running down from the grave site to the railroad cars. There are three vaults, the center one for Mr. Haynes and one on either side for each of his wives. His wives’ remains were moved from Floyd’s Creek Cemetery. That’s Mr. Freeman beyond the vaults.
This photo shows the grave plot looking south with Academy Street in the background. At this time not all of the houses had been built on this street. The Haynes headstone sits on the ramp, with large ropes attached to the block and tackle components used to winch the pieces up the ramp. The cement vaults as well as the cornerstones have been completed and the foundation trenches for the walls have been dug.
