Page title image: The Hames Studio

Lawrence & Zeb Abernathy

Another studio portrait. The brothers are all dressed up and smoking cigars. One's sitting in a cane chair; the other standing in front of the painted cloth studio backdrop.

In addition to their names, the only other identification on the back of this photo postcard is “Vardie’s brother.”

A fashion note: You’ll notice some men in many of these old photos wear trousers without sewn cuffs, they just fold them up. The reason, we suspect, is so the other males in the family, with different inseam lengths, can share the garment.
