Lawrence Blanton

Jack in boxing togs in a fighting stance.
Lawrence Jack Blanton – About 1927

Known in local boxing circles as “Cliffside Jack,” Lawrence was the son of Clinton and Ora Bland Blanton, and brother to, among others, Maude (Mrs. Loy) Wortman, Georgia (Mrs. Robert) Hawkins and Lillie Bell (Mrs. Jim) Frye.

In the early 1930’s, Lawrence served in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). He returned to Cliffside to run the town’s filtering plant. Before his untimely death in 1934 at the age of 27, he was husband to Juanita Crawford (later Mrs. Bill McNabb). Their daughter is Peggy Blanton, who became Mrs. James Edward Hadden.

He is buried in Cliffside Cemetery.
