
Children of Fred and Era Robinson

Mary Elizabeth was born Aug. 16, 1922 in St Petersburg, Fla. The family moved to Cliffside about 1930. They lived in a family home place on Hwy 120. Mary Elizabeth and sister Freddie started 3rd grade at Cliffside School. Both girls were involved in singing at many chapel programs at school as well as singing with their mother Era at churches all around the county. Mary Elizabeth was good at art and decorated many bulletin boards around school. She and Freddie were in the Graduating Class of 1940. She married Robert Moore shortly after graduation. She had three children: Marilyn Moore, David Beach and Mark Beach. She worked for the City of Shelby for more than 20 years as City Clerk and Purchasing Agent. Mary died of congestive heart failure on Dec. 21,2002.
Freddie Margaret was born Sept. 18, 1923 in Greensboro, NC. In Cliffside School she excelled in public speaking and debate. She was treasurer of Senior Class of 1940. She was also busy singing at school as well as churches in the area. Willard (Bill) Sisk was President of class of 1940. Bill went in the Navy during WWII. Upon his discharge from the service Bill went to work for Duke Power Co. He and Freddie were married Nov. 1, 1944. They were members of Cliffside Baptist Church. Their three children grew up in Cliffside: Mary Ann, Fred and Dean. Bill died Apr. 27, 2003. Freddie now lives in Seneca, S. C. near Mary Ann.
James Manley was born Aug. 7, 1925 in Greensboro, NC. He graduated from Cliffside School in 1943 and joined the Army Corp of Engineers. He was discharged in 1946 and married Hazel McDaniel of Cliffside. Her parents were Jim and Elizabeth McDaniel. Jimmy worked for Duke Power Co. He was a member of Rescue Squad. He and Hazel were members of Cliffside Baptist Church. Jimmy died of a heart attack in November of 1988. Hazel still lives in their home on Hwy 120. Their children are Cindy Robinson Gosey and Polly Robinson Crawley.
Charles Luther was born Aug. 1, 1928 in Greensboro, NC. He was raised at the Robinson home place on Hwy 120, just a mile or so outside of Cliffside. Following graduation from Cliffside school he attended the University of N. C. Charles married Dorothy Ann Hawkins. She is related to the McGinnis family who lived on Hwy 120. They raised two sons, Michael and David, in Greensboro. Charles retired from Jefferson-Pilot Insurance after 42 years. Charles died of a heart attack June 15, 1992. His wife Dot still lives there.
Donald Thomas was born Jan. 21, 1935 in Cliffside. He graduated from Cliffside High School in 1952. Following high school, Donald joined the U. S. Coast Guard and served for twenty years. He met and married Joyce Vincent while stationed in Swansboro, NC. Don and Joyce have two daughters, Brenda and Susan. He retired from Coast Guard in 1974. He and Joyce are retired in Swansboro.
Max Calvin was born Dec. 16, 1942 in Cliffside. He was raised at the home place on Hwy 120. His father Fred died of a heart attack Oct.9, 1954. Max attended Cliffside School thru 8th grade and graduated from Chase High School. In 1962 Max joined the U. S. Air Force. While based in Mississippi he met Patricia Ann Wunstell. They were married Feb. 8, 1964. Following his discharge from the Air Force, Max, Pat and son Timothy returned to North Carolina. Max lives in High Point. His wife Pat died of cancer Sept. 29, 2004.
