John Jackson Moore Sr. was born Nov. 19, 1754 in Brunswick Co. Virginia. He died between 1830 and 1840 in York Co., South Carolina. He married Elizabeth Jones about 1780 in York Co., S. C. She was born about 1760 in Orange Co. N. C. and died about 1830. The parents of Elizabeth are Benjamin Jones and Amy Parish Jones. They came to America from Wales.

Thomas Moore was born about 1797 in Rutherford Co. and died in 1877 and is buried in Boiling Springs cemetery. He married Margaret McSwain about 1817. Margaret was born in 1798 in Rutherford Co. and died after 1870. She is also buried at Boiling Springs cemetery. Her parents are Charles and Margaret Norwood McSwain

Francis Moore was born in 1822 in Rutherford Co. N. C. He died Jan. 6, 1902 and is buried in Boiling Springs N. C. cemetery. (The marker lists him as “Francis More – Co.D. 14 NC Inf CSA.”)
Francis married Lucinda O’Neal about 1842. She was born 1826 in North Carolina, died June 6, 1903. She is also buried in Boiling Springs Cemetery. (The marker lists her as “Lugindia More.”)

John O’Neal Moore was born Jan. 16, 1847 and died Jan. 5, 1925 in Shelby, N. C. He was buried at Camp’s Creek Baptist Cemetery, Cleveland Co. N. C. John served in the Civil War (South). He enlisted in 1864. Attained rank of 1st Corporal. John married Sarah K. Bridges about 1865. Sarah Kisiah Bridges was born Jan. 31, 1849 in Rutherford Co. N. C. She died Jan. 16, 1922 and is buried in Camp’s Creek Cemetery. Her father is Timmons Bridges, born 1822 and died about 1856. Her mother is Silvia Raney Jolley Bridges, born 1823 and died in 1908.

N. C. According to the census, Asia worked in the cotton mill at Cliffside in the dye house.
His first wife was Pantha Davis, born 1888. His second wife was Cecil Trent, born
May 10, 1890. She died Dec. 19, 1969. Irvin and Cecil are buried in Cliffside Cemetery.

Columbus P. and Cora Sarratt Moore
Columbus P. Moore was born October 23, 1866 in Cleveland Co., N. C. He died June 7, 1940 and is buried at Camp’s Creek Cemetery, Cleveland Co., N. C. He lived in Cliffside N. C. He was a fireman for the Cliffside textile mill. The parents of Columbus are John O’Neal Moore and Sarah Bridges Moore.
Columbus first wife was Ellen Allison Moore. They were married about 1886. They had one child, Emma Julia who was born May 22, 1888 or 1889.
In 1892 Columbus married Cora D. Sarratt Moore in Shelby, Cleveland Co., N.C. Cora was born July 11, 1866 in Slice Shoals, Cleveland County, N. C. She died July 26, 1949 in Cleveland Co., N. C. She is the daughter of Ugenius and Letitia Sarratt. Both Cora and Columbus are buried in Camp’s Creek Cemetery.
Cora was a homemaker and an excellent cook. She was hard of hearing. When the banks failed during the Depression, Cora lost all of her money and she never trusted banks again. (Find Cora among the descendents of her great great grandfather, John Sarratt.)
Columbus’ granddaughter, Agnes, remembers that he always gave the granddaughters a handkerchief for Christmas. He gave the grandsons a mouth harp (harmonica).
In the 1910 Census the Columbus Moore family is listed as living at #4 Church St, Cliffside. In 1935 the family lived at 24 Green St. in Cliffside N. C.
Children of Columbus and Cora Moore
Emma Julia Moore was the daughter of Columbus and his first wife, Ellen. Emma was born May 22, 1888 or 1889, and died Nov. 21, 1977. She married Thomas George Green in 1909, probably in Cleveland Co. He was born May 25, 1887, and died Nov. 1966. They had four children: Herbert, Nellie, G. C. and twin sister O. Z. Emma, Thomas and son Herbert are buried in Cleveland Memorial Park, Cleveland Co. N. C. In the 1910 census, Emma is listed as a spinner at the Cliffside Mill.
Cuttie E. Moore was born July 20, 1894. She died Nov. 23, 1962.
She married Jason Barnwell who was born Aug. 4, 1888, and died Dec. 1, 1976. Cuttie was a homemaker and her husband Jason worked in the textile mill. They had one son, John who had a career in the Navy and lives in Florida. They also had a daughter, Edith. She was born in 1917 and died in 1923 at age of six years. She is buried with her parents in Cliffside Cemetery.
Allow Enora Moore was born May 14, 1892 in Cliffside, Rutherford Co. N. C. She was a homemaker and also worked in textile mill in Cliffside. She married Wilson Powell on April 16, 1911 in South Carolina. Wilson was born Oct. 6, 1887 in Shelby and died June 2, 1931. He was a farmer and worked in the Cliffside Mill. They had ten children. The boys were Otis, Broadus, James, Charlie, Glenn and Guy. The girls were Reba and Ellen. Henry and Mary, twins were born Feb. 20, 1926. I believe they only lived a short time. Wilson died when the children were very young. Allows’ sister Tencie, and brother Geary, and his wife Lois helped raise Ellen. Allow died Sept. 28, 1970. She and her husband are buried in Camps Creek Cemetery.
Geary Evans Moore was born March 9, 1896 and died April 8, 1961. He married Lois Bridges. They had four children: Agnes, Marshall, Robert and Corene.
Tencie Estelle Moore was born Dec. 17, 1899 Cleveland Co. N. C. and died June 26, 1968. She is buried in Cliffside Cemetery. She lived in Cliffside and worked in the textile mill. In the 1910 Census, Tencie is listed as working at Cliffside Mill as a spinner. She was only 9 years old. She never married. Tencie helped raise her sister Allow’s daughter Ellen. Her father, Columbus, had a stroke and was in bed for ten or twelve years. She took care of her father and mother (Columbus and Cora) as long as they lived.
Otto McClean Moore was born March 10, 1908 and died June 15, 1989. He is buried in the Cliffside Cemetery. His first wife was Biddie Mae Huskey. She was born in 1908. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. J E Huskey. Biddie and Otto were married on March 1, 1928. They both worked at the Cliffside Mill. On Sept. 14, 1929 there was a fire in their home and Biddie was killed. She is buried at Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery.
Otto married Louise Beam on May 25, 1932 in Cleveland Co. N. C. Louise was born July 14, 1906. She graduated from college and became a teacher in Cliffside. From a Cliffside housing list dated 1935, Otto and Louise are listed as living at 22 Green Street. Louise died June 12, 1987 and is also buried in Cliffside Cemetery.
Otto served in the Army during World War II. After the war, he went to work for Duke Power Co. They lived outside Cliffside in a home they bought there. When Louis’s parents died, they inherited the homeplace and lived there the rest of their lives.
Otto and Louise had one son, Phillip. He attended Clemson University in South Carolina. After Louise’s death, Otto married Lillie Robbs Humphries. Otto died on June 15, 1989 at Rutherford Hospital. He is buried in Cliffside Cemetery. He was 81 years old.
