Claude McFarland’s Letter

From The Sun, October 27, 1910

False Report Corrected

To the Editor of The Sun:

CLIFFSIDE, Oct. 25—There is a report in circulation over the county that I have turned Republican. This report I wish to correct with this explanation:

I endeavored for two weeks to be a Republican, but my conscience smote me the same as if I had stolen a sheep that I afterwards discovered not to have a particle of wool on its hide, and was too d___ poor to eat. This I could not stand, so I am again happy as the big sun-flower that nods and bends in the breeze.

Respectfully,
CLAUDE MCFARLAND
