The Sum of Its Parts

By Reno Bailey

Have you ever seen a steam engine in pieces? The North Carolina Railway Museum in Bonsal, N. C. is restoring our old engine #110 to its former glory, and to do the job right they had to take it apart.

David Stancil (son of Shirley Ruppe Stancil) posted these photos on Facebook and agreed to share them.

The boiler of the engine sits on wooden blocks.
The tender, which holds the supply of coal, in one piece.
The frame attached to the trucks (wheels) of the engine.

The museum is a part of the New Hope Valley Railway complex. Visit to see the progress, or go to their website http://www.triangletrain.com/equipment.
