A giant old tree trunk is lodged on the dam, as seen from the dam and gate platform. The “gate” is essentially a door at the base of the dam that can be opened to release water from behind the dam. This would occur when they “draw (lower) the pond” to clean and paint the water wheels beneath the power house.
Looking northeast from atop the dam. At left is the corner of the power house. The concrete wall snaking out into the water is called the “coffer dam.” The Methodist Church is barely visible in the upper left.
