Practicaly all the old buildings are gone, with this notable exception. It was called the “filtering plant.” Prior to its implementation about 1926, Cliffside’s drinking water had come from wells. This new marvel had a 65,000-gallon reservoir and, no doubt, the most modern filtration system of its day. Now [in 2011] the reservoir is full of rainwater and the equipment is rusting away.
Few ever saw inside the “plant,” but finally here’s your chance. Photos by James L. Harris.
