Bridges

A view toward the mill, the pond and the bridge leading to the south.
Looking over the Riddles Creek gorge toward the bridge near the river.
Looking southeast, a full shot of the bridge crossing the Riddles Creek gorge.
The Methodist Church is seen beyond the bridge, and further up the hill the water tank and tower stand against the sky.
Nine workmen busy amid torch and compressor lines strewn about.
The landscape has been scoured of trees and shrubs. Some serious hauling and grading is about to begin.
Workmen standing near the opening of the culvert are dwarfed by its 18-foot height. The landscape is all carved up into different elevations.
A large crane is removing a long steel cross member from the bridge frame. Workmen are loosening the bolts holding down the few other girders remaining.
Another shot of the crane, having swung the girder around and down, where it will be hauled away.
we're looking east across the Methodist Church parking lot at Shelby Highway, onto which traffic will soon be allowed. The terrain, once a gorge, is now level, and the creek bridge is gone.
From the south bank of the river, the church is in the background and the two parallel bridge are prominent in the shot, the older one is nearly half dismantled.
Cranes on either end of the old bridge are lifting its pieces away.
Workmen and a truck move along the bridge bed, removing the sidewaalk and railing.
The Caterpiller front-end loader, with cables attached to its bucket, rips the side rails loose from the bridge.
A wide-angle shot of the freshly paved highway leading over the new bridge and up toward the school.
