See “I remember...”, the memoirs of Mabel Bridges Cargill in the Memories section. You'll find the full text of her essay, along with her biography and family pictures, and a poignant news item about her parents.

There are more old articles in the In The News section, in a category called Cliffside Christmas. They tell of the excitement and preparations for Christmas in our town in the late '20s. There are also some letters to Santa from children you might know or remember, and a couple of interesting seasonal ads for the Cliffside Mills Store.

For those with ties to Cleveland County, we've issued an appeal for your help in the creation of a forthcoming book Cleveland County, NC Heritage Vol.2.

In The River photo gallery, we've added three remarkable Mack Hendrick photos of the “drawing the pond” ritual, starting with this one. You'll be seeing more of Mack's photo collection in the days to come.

In the Memories department, in the section called “RGee's Corner,” we've added four new installments (with October dates) on Glenn Watkins' life and times in Cliffside. If you haven't run across this section before, you must read his reminiscences. It's a view of Cliffside's “old days” that you'll find nowhere else.

Added a new original article in Memories, Working in the Mill, by R.G. Watkins. Learn what a “Smash Hand” is, and what a “Tie In” machine does!

In the main navigation bar, removed button for “The Poem” and replaced it with one for “In the News,” a whole new section with over 25 articles and columns from editions of the late 1920s of The Rutherford Sun, describing events both tragic and humorous; changes to the town; advertising by Cliffside stores and businesses; and community, school and church news. (The Poem is now under Odds & Ends.)
