“Simple Pleasures ”

Contributor: Bonnie Mintz Hines

Cooling Off in Riddles Creek - Summer 1946

The creek ran behind the houses on Valley Street, where Bonnie Mintz's family lived, as did R. G. Watkins, his wife Muriel, and their children Diane and Pete. From left is Diane Watkins, Mrs. Ott (R. G.'s mother-in-law from New York), Bonnie Mintz (in cap), Pete Watkins and Ruby Mintz, Bonnie's mother. Bonnie remembers they always sat in the creek with their dresses on. If you look carefully in the upper right, you'll see a #3 wash tub hanging on the side of what appears to be an outhouse. Such a tub was used for doing laundry and taking baths.
