Firebugs

Back in '65the Cliffside Fire Department would pick out an abandoned mill house (of which there were dozens) and, for practice, burn it to the ground. Good training for our firemen.

Standard practice was to whack a hole in the attic space to let the air circulate and feed the fire.

The last occupant left behind a few clothespins.

Marty McKinney holdin' down the pumper truck.

Is this fun, or what?

Smoke Break

Smokin' while messin' with gasoline? You might burn the house down!

Last one out light a far.

Did you live here? Anyone recognize this house and street?

Under the spreading chinaberry tree...

Even a practice fire will draw a crowd.

Fun's over. Time to put out th' far and git on home.
