Cleveland Friends Speak At Memorial Services
From The Cleveland Star, Jun. 23, 1922

The $100,000 memorial building erected to the memory of the late Raleigh R. Haynes, of Cliffside, will be formally opened Saturday night and presented to the Cliffside mills company, the building to be used as a welfare institution by the mill operatives. The building has just been completed and is a most magnificent structure right in the heart of Cliffside where it is convenient for the operatives to use daily. The tower contains an immense clock with chimes, while the interior contains a large auditorium, library, gymnasium, swimming pool, etc., as well as offices for the community nurse who is on duty all the time. When Mr. Haynes died he left a note written on Christmas eve in which he asked that his friends, Clyde R. Hoey, Judge J. L. Webb, and R. L. Ryburn, of Shelby, be asked to say a few words at his funeral. This note was not found until some time after Mr. Haynes died, so his son, Charlie Haynes, thought it appropriate to ask these Shelby gentlemen to be present a the formal opening and dedication of the memorial building at which time they who knew him most intimately will pay tribute to his noble worth and high achievements.

It is understood that the opening will be marked by other exercises appropriate for the occasion. The Cliffside band will furnish music and there will be a number of other speakers, after which the building will be opened for public inspection. A large crowd will no doubt be present.
