Another view of the mill office
From
Ginny Anne Reid collection
The
signs on the building read “R.R. Haynes, President” and “Post
Office.” In those days, the mill entrance was very different than what
we remember. For one thing, the huge trees that, in our day, lined the walkway
into the mill were then either absent or too small to see from the street.
Apparently there was no gatehouse. The post office remained in this building
until well into the 1950s. Not surprisingly, those kids are attracted to the
goldfish just as we were.
