taken in front of an early Cliffside barbershop, year unknown. Beason married
Mary Ellen Bridges (1851-1936), daughter of Silvia Raney Jolly and Timmons
Bridges. One of Joe's and Ellen's children was Prella Beason Greene, the mother of
Ginny Anne Reid. According to
Ginny Anne, Joe was a horse trader, farmer, and did “anything to make
a dollar.” He kept a ledger from January 1886 through November 1929.
In it, he recorded his many activities, including trading with Raleigh Haynes,
helping build Hayne's house, and helping build roads at Cliffside.
